BACKGROUND
We are London's largest running specialist sport shop, here for all things running and based in Paddington a few minutes walk from the train and tube station. Our store is bright and spacious with treadmills and video gait analysis available 7 days a week. Paddington Central forms part of a new urban regeneration site that has a mixture of offices, retail and residential property. We sell shoes, clothing and accessories all for running.
We offer first-class levels of service and selection giving you the best choice and therefore the best chance of finding the right running shoe for you. If you cannot get to see us then the good news is that our product range is now online. In-store we cater for runners of all levels from beginner to elite and everyone inbetween. We've been here since 15th September 2006 when we opened as Apex Sports.
SHOE FITTING
We have treadmills in-store and use video gait analysis as part of a process to help us recommend suitable shoes for you. How long this process takes varies but will typically be about 20 minutes. We need some background information about your running such as how much running you do, on which surfaces and whether or not you've got or had any injury problems. Each run on the treadmill is short and therefore this can easily be done in normal clothing. If you prefer to complete this process in running kit then that is fine too. Please be aware that the ultimate choice for a shoe purchase will come down to you and the fit and feel of a shoe. We will however assist in the process of pinpointing the right type or category of shoe so that you will make a decision from a suitable short list.
HISTORY
Paddington is steeped in running history. On 6th May 1954, Roger Bannister became the first person to run the mile in under 4 minutes. Much of his training was performed on the running track at Paddington rec, a short warm up jog from St. Mary's hospital where Roger worked as a trainee doctor. On the morning of 6th May, Roger worked his usual shift, although he took a break from his usual rounds, prefering to save some energy and stay off his feet as much as possible.
He took a train to Oxford from Paddington Station, which is next to the hospital and the rest, as they say, is history. 3 minutes 59.4 seconds of history.
EVENT SUPPORT AND CHARITY
We support a number of local events including the London Pride 10k, donate used running shoes to the shoe4africa campaign run by Toby Tanser and support both local and national charities including PDS (Parkinsons Disease Society).
Also check www.inpaddington.co.uk for details of local events such as live music in the area immediately in front of the shop, great on a summers day.
