Although you may not wish to 'invest' in Triathlon clothing for your first Triathlon competition you will soon realise the importance of specific triathlon gear and it's ability to help you in your event.

Shorts are padded to protect you on the bike but not too bulky so you are comfortable on your run. The chamois contains open cell properties to allow water to drain out. There is some variation with inseam lengths with your personal preference ruling which one to go for. Tops are close fitting to reduce drag in all the triathlon disciplines and will dry quickly to keep you comfortable. They are usually sleeveless and should have some pockets around the back. The women's tri tops may have a built in sports bra. This may not be supportive enough on it's own and you may wish to double up in this area.

Tri-suits are sometimes all that you need (e.g.pool swim or tropical seas) otherwise this is a popular way of dressing for the bike and run sections. They fit easily underneath a wetsuit (which you can either hire or buy) and have a more compressed feel than separates.
