Why Heart Rate based training?
The most effective way to reach your exercise and weight loss goals is to exercise in your target heart rate zone. There are three key target zones that help you achieve specific goals.
They are calculated based on your maximum heart rate (this will APPROXIMATELY be 220 minus your age). Your heart rate monitor will display your heart rate on the wrist/watch unit so that you know which zone you are working in.
GOAL 1: Increase aerobic exercise capacity and speed endurance: Train at 80-90% of maximum HR. This is tough training and your breathing will be heavy and muscles will be fatigued.
GOAL 2: Improve aerobic fitness: Train at 70-80% of maximum HR. This will be pushing yourself fairly hard with faster breathing.
GOAL 3: Improve basic endurance and recovery: Train at 60-70% of maximum HR. This would be a comfortable and easy pace. If you were running with someone you could hold a conversation. Your breathing would be easy.
