Mizuno Wave Inspire 8
A most welcome update. Gone is the higher cut heel collar and Dynamotion Fit tab that was present in Wave Inspire 7. Instead there's a much more lower profile upper with similarly cut overlays as found in the very popular Wave Inspire 6.
Mizuno has retained a wide hole mesh for breathability and the overlay material feels identical to that of Wave Inspire 6. Also removed are the flex eyelets and the longer tongue of the Wave Inspire 7. The inner heel lining material, the Ortholite sock liner and some very slightly modified lateral overlays remain.
Mizuno looked closely at midsole for the Wave Inspire 8. While the VS-1 cushioning wedge is still found in the heel, they changed everything else. A reengineered wave plate provides an improved level of stability. It's now providing more arch support but in addition Mizuno has also slightly flared the medial aspect of the heel to ensure a stable landing and transition through toe off.
In the forefoot Mizuno has carved out a bit more midsole foam at the flex point and added flex controllers which almost act as a secondary wave in the forefoot. Still in place is Mizuno’s AP+ midsole foam (see below) which is a more durable and springy formulation of their classic AP foam.
The Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 features Mizuno's revolutionary New Midsole material AP+
• Lighter weight
• Increased cushioning durability
• AP+ = Acceleration Polymer
• Only losses 20% of its cushioning after 600km
• Excellent durability
The Inspire 8 still boasts Mizuno's unique Wave technology that offers cushioning at heel strike and perfect support to maintain correct foot biomechanics for the moderate over pronator. The plate that is used starts low on the lateral (outside) of the trainer which gradually fans out and raises in height towards the medial (inside) side. This is designed so the lateral side of the wave provides shock absorption at heel strike, and then progressively helping the foot into a neutral position.
