Saucony Women's Kinvara 2 (2012)
Runners Space says in it's review: This could be the easiest review of all time: the first Kinvara was great, and this year's update is great. Period.
Runner's Vibe says in it's review: If Vibram’s “FiveFingers” is the (so-called) shoe that put “barefoot running” on the map, then Saucony’s original Kinvara is arguably responsible for making minimalist footwear mainstream.
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Heel ProGrid Lite for minimal mass, maximum cushioning
• Midfoot Archlock for secure foot control
• EVA+ Midsole to cushion the foot
• EVA Sockliner for added comfort
• Lightweight Breathable MonoMesh for lightness and comfort
• Hydrator breathable, wicking fabric in collar and tongue
• Memory foam heel pods for perfect, custom-fit.
• Endoskeleton synthetic lockdown to hold the foot without irritation
The Kinvara hit the UK by storm last year with its amazing lightweight blend of cushioning and flexibility. The update sees no change to the outsole and midsole combination. The Kinvara 2 has the same minimally constructed, lightweight responsive frame. The change comes in the upper so that the new version fits like a glove and allows the foot to move through the gait cycle totally uninhibited.
The Kinvara 2 still provides as much cushioning as the ProGrid Triumph, but this shoe is 100g lighter! By using Heel ProGrid Lite for cushioning, the EVA Plus midsole provides as much shock absorption as standard ProGrid but is 20% thinner.
Whilst the Kinvara 2 has the looks and weight of a racing shoe, it's very much a training shoe for the neutral runner to use on a daily basis. Energy is returned using a "piston" effect through the triangular lugs of the outsole giving an amazingly cushioned ride for such a lightweight shoe. The monomesh upper is as minimalist as possible and in combination with the reduced mass of the midsole, brings barefoot running to the masses.
The 4mm drop from heel to forefoot is a third of what a normal shoe would measure, meaning it is flatter under the foot and will allow you to run more naturally by complimenting a midfoot or forefoot strike.
