Saucony Type A4
• Fast, lightweight, neutral racing flat
• Smooth transition from heel strike to toe off
• Improved traction so you don't miss a step
• Weight: 6.4 oz
The Type A4 is the newest version of Saucony's super lightweight racing flats. Looking at the shoe tells you it was made to go fast. A thin mid sole and weight saving out sole keep the shoe lighter than many spikes. Lighter than its predecessor, the Saucony Type A4 features a small 4mm heel-to-toe drop.
Another key feature is the lighter mesh upper. A new outsole with improved traction gives reasonable grip on dirt and grass, making the flat an alternative to spikes on cross country courses with pavement.
Carried over from the A3 is the venting in the outsole. While this helps keep the weight down, venting is also useful in the steeplechase, cross country, triathlons, or on wet roads. With a lack of stability post, this flat is meant for efficient runners only.
The Type A4 is ideal for 5km and 10km but elites will find the flat useful in half marathons.
UPPER
Air Mesh Upper: Provides lightweight breathability
Gussetted tongue: Great for putting the shoe on (e.g. in triathlon transition) or adjusting quickly
MIDSOLE
SSL (Saucony Super Lite) EVA
An advanced EVA blend that maximizes rebound and durability while minimizing weight
OUTSOLE
XT-900™
A carbon rubber outsole material that offers exceptional traction properties without sacrificing durability
The A4 is lighter, and breezier (thanks to a new, more open mesh), while retaining the low-riding feel and easy flex of previous versions. This is the consummate minimalist trainer with just enough cushioning (and a 4mm ramp angle) but not so much that it gets in the way. The outsole is interspersed with segments of semi-firm carbon rubber knobs for superior grip and durability. Like most shoes in this category, the Type A4 has a narrow, snug fit, especially in the toe box.
