The Nike Free Run+ 2 is designed to give a barefoot-like feel but with shoe-like benefits. It was created for those who love the feel of barefoot running, yet need the cushioning, traction and protection of a shoe.
This update to the Nike Free series offers improved fit, cushioning and support. The inner-sleeve is improved. It's one piece patterned overlay is more snug and helps with support, with or without socks.
Flex grooves have helped improve the flexibility and natural feel of the shoe. They are deeper along the length and width of the midsole which doubles as the outsole. This will allow your foot to move naturally while adding stability.
Extensive, breathable mesh on the upper enhances the barefoot like fit and feel.
Rubber in key wear zones for traction and durability. 'Waffle pistons' design in the outsole adds to the shock absorption and responsiveness.
The latest shoe in Nike's minimalist line has been tweaked slightly to be both more flexible and a tad more supportive than the original Free 5.0. This shoe is ultralight and has an 8mm heel-toe drop and a low-to-the-ground feel in the forefoot. The dynamic design of the outsole allows the shoe to flex in all directions, giving it the ability to move however your foot wants to move.
Nike considers this shoe to be more of a training "tool" than a shoe for a specific purpose. This means that it could be a recovery shoe, a shoe for low-mileage days, a drills/strength-building shoe, a cross-training shoe or even an everyday trainer for those adept at minimalist running.

Running in this shoe definitely offers up a unique sensation of freedom, especially at higher speeds with a midfoot/ forefoot style of gait.
