This is Newton's first trail running shoe.
The Momentum is an off-road trainer designed for all types of terrain, from groomed bridle paths and roads to technical mountain trails. We feel that it is a refreshing slant on a trail shoe as it deviates significantly from other trail offerings that are effectively lightweight, low top hiking shoes. This is not a lightweight speed hiker, it is a running tool.
The outsole features a protected stretch membrane and increased traction, while the upper is designed with a closed mesh to keep out debris and medial and lateral webbing to provide increased upper stability.
The first three lacing eyelets have an anti-debris gaiter sewn under them. The laces themselves feature a miniature ridge that makes accidental untying rare. A lime green synthetic heel/midsole armor plate starts at the ball of the foot and wraps around the heel. This fortifies the upper and provides noticeable stability while tuning up the responsive foot-handling of the shoe: It goes where you want it.
Whether you follow Chi, Pose, Evolution, barefoot running or just want to run better, this low profile, high-durability shoe allows you to run naturally on the trails.
The Terra Momentus, aims to fill the gap in Newton’s shoe range by combining their Action/Reaction lug technology to help runners perform with a more natural gait and foot placement with the rugged necessities of a trail shoe.

How does a Newton shoe work?
When your midfoot/forefoot LANDS on the ground, the technology's four external actuator lugs are pressed into hollow chambers inside the shoe's midsole via an elastic membrane (ACTION). This movement absorbs shock.
As you LEVER inside the shoe, the lugs release their stored energy and propel you forward through a burst of energetic return (REACTION) from the Action/Reaction Technology™. You then LIFT your knee and begin a new stride.
