A shoe that always gets high marks for its lightweight feel, flexibility and ability to run fast, this year’s version has been tweaked slightly but retains its performance qualities in its current role as a “crossover” road or trail shoe (not to be confused with first models of the same name that were more of a lightweight racer). Gone from the last edition is the water-resistant upper, and in its place is a breathable, dual-mesh top. Its midsole and outsole construction has been altered a bit, too, and the newer version feels a tad lighter and a bit more peppy. Our testers thought it was one of the best crossover shoes of all those we tested, ideal for everyday training and racing on pavement, dirt roads and semi-technical trails. It didn’t fare quite as well on technical trails, given its relatively thick midsole, and because it didn’t offer quite as much protection as some of the mountain marauders on the market.
